Exploration of alternative platform configurations and alternative manufacturing approaches. Details of assembly and stack-up are thought through prior to and during creation of CAD.

The design is transferred to CAD and used for high-fidelity renderings and full-size models.

Design Principles

As a conclusion to the Neptune Waste Management engagement, I established design principles and design guideline documentation for the Neptune product line.

Logical Transitions

Designs that incorporate logical transitions help simplify form. When forms are simple a user can focus their attention on important information without distraction.

Stability

A dominant and stable element used in the design communicates strength and robustness, two characteristics that represent Neptune brand values.

Primary/Secondary Surfaces

Primary and secondary surfaces can be used to cut down on the overall mass of a product, making it look lighter and leaner with maintaining an approachable form.

“Shared authorship with defined ownership.”

Interventional Spine

Logical Transitions

Interventional Spine Medicine is a subspecialty of minimally invasive pain treatments including securing and rebuilding osteoporotic bone in vertebrae. With advanced imaging a cannula can be inserted through a small incision and hole in the vertebral body to allow delivery of cement with pin-point accuracy. Fig. a & b

Conceptual designs exploring form, modality, and ergonomics.

User Validation

Concepts were tested with surgeons and clinical staff during cadaver labs.

Execution

Design improved ergonomics and drove continuity of brand across touch points.
